The perfect trail for your next winter adventure.
The Lapland Arctic Ultra has been an initiative welcomed the Överkalix Kommun and local businesses alike. They all want to see tourism grow. Especially winter tourism. We all agreed that our race can be a very efficient marketing tool on the way to achieving that goal. And we all joined forces in creating a trail development project that goes beyond just the Lapland Arctic Ultra.
Most of the trails have been used by local outdoor enthusiasts long before I came. Made possible by the local snowmobile clubs who have it the core of their mission to groom trails for all to enjoy.
What was new is that, with the launch of the inaugural Lapland Arctic Ultra in 2022, some of these existing trails were linked together to form a 185 km loop. So, it was only natural to use this great infrastructure, improve it, for the race, for locals and for independent tourism.
It has been in a long time in the making but currently, the goal is to officially open the 185 km Lapland Arctic Trail for winter 26/27 – as a marked trail that, while the season lasts , can be enjoyed by anyone. It will be a win:win for all involved. Less work for marking, funding for improved infrastructure, a great selling point for tourism and an increased number of guests.
